Shadows
by Shirah Pollock
Long shapes in the afternoon
dendritic, obsidian arms
craving an embrace
but afraid of the light.
They drape themselves
against park benches
and in the edges of the grass
always just a breath away.
We see them,
but only children
play with them.
They must be lonely.
All dark and no light.
An unbalanced existence.
